Mani Ratnam’s subsequently film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s widely held Tamil historical novel Ponniyin Selvan which narrates the life and time of Raja Raja Chola, single of the furthermost kings in South Indian history. Pre-production workings are in a jiffy in progress.

This historical film to be made in Tamil and Telugu will be produced by Kalanidhi Maran of Sun Pictures who recently made the Rajinikanth starrer Robo (Enthiran) directed by Shankar. Tamil writer Jayamohan will ballpoint the dialogues. Ilayaraaja composes the harmony in place of the film. The film is likely to cost not far off from Rs 200 crore.
